In short
Eaulie orders fragrances and prices by fixed rules that apply to everyone. Nobody can buy a higher place: brands and shops do not pay for their position in a list.
Every visitor sees the same order. We do not use personal data or pages you visited before to change it.
Categories, brands and perfumers: ‘Popular’
This is the default order. There are five rules, in order of weight. A later rule only counts when the earlier ones make no difference:
- Fragrances with a price come first: a current shop price or a recommended price the brand publishes. Fragrances without a price come last.
- Among those, the most popular fragrances come first: what the most different visitors viewed over the past weeks. A click through to a shop counts twice as much as a visit, and recent days weigh more: each week counts half as much as the week after it. We count anonymously and without cookies (see the privacy statement), and visits by bots do not count.
- Among those, fragrances with a current shop price come first: a price from a shop that Eaulie shows.
- Among those, fragrances with a known perfumer come first.
- Among those, fragrances are listed alphabetically (A–Z) by name.
Fragrances we know nothing about yet, such as new ones, therefore skip rule 2. Sales, payments and commission play no part in this order. Filtering by brand or perfumer only changes which fragrances you see, not their order.
Choosing another order
With ‘Sort by’ you can choose a different order:
- ‘Price: low to high’ and ‘Price: high to low’: by the lowest current shop price of any of its bottle sizes (per bottle the top offer of its shop list that is not sold out); this is the price shown with the fragrance in the list. Without a current shop offer, the lowest recommended price the brand publishes counts instead, and the list then says so. Prices in another currency are converted to euros roughly, at fixed rates, for this order only. The page always shows the original price. Fragrances without a price come last; equal prices are listed A–Z.
- ‘Newest in the catalogue’: what was added to Eaulie most recently comes first. This says nothing about when a fragrance came onto the market.
- ‘Name (A–Z)’: alphabetically by name.
Search
Your words are searched in the name, brand, perfumer, category, versions and fragrance notes, and are understood in other languages too (‘vanilla’, ‘vanille’ and ‘Vanille’ find the same fragrances). A fragrance must match all your words. The default order (‘Relevance’), by weight:
- Fragrances whose name, brand or perfumer is exactly your search.
- Fragrances of a brand, perfumer or line you name.
- Fragrances in the category your word names (for ‘edp’: eau de parfum).
- Other fragrances with all your words; the better the match, especially in the name, the higher.
- Fragrances that only resemble what you typed (after a typo).
At an equal place, fragrances with a photo, a recommended price and a known perfumer come first, then A–Z. When your word finds nothing, we show the results for the closest word and say so.
Shop prices on a fragrance page
For each bottle size we only show shops that sell exactly that bottle (recognised by its EAN code). We never list testers. The order, again in order of weight:
- Shops that do not have the bottle in stock come last.
- Shops that do not state their shipping costs come after shops whose total price we know.
- Among those, the lowest total price comes first: the price including VAT plus shipping.
- On an equal total price, the price we checked most recently comes first.
A price we have not been able to check for more than 48 hours is not shown. Every price says when we last checked it. The brand’s recommended price is shown separately, as ‘Recommended price’, and is never a shop offer.
Advertising and commission
There are no paid placements on Eaulie at the moment. If there are in future, every paid placement will be clearly marked ‘Advertisement’, with who paid for it when we know. An advertisement is kept apart from the normal order and never changes it.
Eaulie may receive a commission through links to shops when you buy something. That commission plays no part in the order: a shop that pays more is not listed higher.
Price drops
When we say a price has dropped, we always compare it with the lowest price of the same shop in the 30 days before the new price began. If we do not know all of those 30 days, we do not report a price drop. A ‘was’ price stated by the shop itself, or the brand’s recommended price, is never used for this.
Trending now
The ‘Trending now’ row on the home page and in categories shows fragrances that clearly more different visitors viewed in the last 7 days than the 4 weeks before would lead us to expect. A fragrance needs at least 5 visitors a week to qualify, and the row only appears when at least 4 fragrances do. Payments and commission play no part here either.
